ReliefWeb: Updates by Country 21.03.2024 21:02 Country: Democratic Republic of the Congo Source: European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms have been affecting the central Democratic Republic of the Congo, in particular the Maniema Province, since 16 March, causing floods, landslides and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage. Maniema is also experiencing record temperatures, with an average of 40°C recorded this week in Kindu, the province’s administrative centre. Media report, as of 21 March, two fatalities, 27 injured people and approximately 100 damaged houses across the Pangi Territory , where the worst affected are the villages of Binumbi and Chabangwa. Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over most of the Maniema Province.
