Democratic Republic of the Congo: South Kivu - Humanitarian snapshot as of 31 January 2024

The province of South Kivu has seen an upsurge in security incidents since January 2023, particularly in the Hauts-Plateaux and Moyens-Plateaux of Fizi, Mwenga, Uvira and in the territory of Kalehe. This context of insecurity has had a negative impact on the humanitarian space and exacerbated the vulnerability of the population. There are 1.5 million people in need in the province, representing 21% of the total population, and more than 1.7 million internally displaced people, including 122,000 following floods and natural disasters. Food insecurity affects 1.5 million people.
